Endodontics

Endodontic therapy—commonly referred to as root canal treatment—is needed when the nerve of a tooth has become damaged by an injury or infected by decay.

Root Canal Treatment
Root canal treatment involves removing diseased tooth pulp from the inside of the tooth. For the first step of the root canal treatment, Dr. DeCastecker will numb the area around the tooth, remove any decayed material and then create a channel to access the root’s interior. She will then remove the infected nerve tissue from the root and flush and clean the area. Next, the root is filled with a special sealing material to prevent infection. If the crown of the tooth has been heavily damaged or decayed, the procedure might include rebuilding the tooth with a post and a crown to restore it to optimal appearance and function. (Note: DeCastecker Dental Specialists provides referrals for root canals for anterior, premolar and some molars)
